Virtus Arena, Bologna

Virtus Arena is the indoor home of Virtus Bologna basketball, built inside the BolognaFiere exhibition district in the north of the city. It opened on 10 November 2019 as a temporary arena erected within Padiglione 30 of the fairgrounds, and in November 2021 moved into the larger Padiglione 37, where it stands today on Viale della Fiera.

Grandstand specialist NUSSLI built the original bowl with almost 9,000 places across different seating and standing categories, roughly doubling the capacity of the club's previous home. The arena has kept growing since: from 8,970 seats at opening to 9,700 in 2020, 9,980 in 2021 and 10,500 from 2025.

Seating and zones

Because the arena is assembled from modular grandstands inside an exhibition pavilion, the bowl wraps tightly around the court. The main categories are:

• Standard seating on the grandstands surrounding the court.
• Standing areas for the loudest sections of the support.
• Hospitality zones and VIP lounges with dedicated catering, used by club partners, alongside a conference room of more than 200 seats.
• Media seats positioned for clear sightlines over the court.

On game days the concourses fill with supporter booths and installations that the club calls its black-and-white village.

Getting there

The arena is in the Fiera District, about 4 km from Bologna Centrale railway station. TPER buses 35 and 38 run from the station to the Piazza della Costituzione and Viale Aldo Moro entrances of BolognaFiere (lines 35 and 39 for the return), while bus 28 links the fairgrounds with the city centre, less than 5 km away.
