A Liberty-Style Racecourse Turned Music Stage

The Ippodromo Snai San Siro opened in 1920, designed by architect Paolo Vietti-Violi to rival the great racecourses of Paris and London. Its Liberty-style grandstands, wrought-iron balustrades and landscaped gardens earned the venue cultural-heritage protection, and a monumental bronze horse based on a Leonardo da Vinci design has stood at the entrance since 1999.

While flat racing still takes place from spring to autumn, since the 2010s the racecourse has become Milan's largest open-air concert site. It is the main venue of I-Days Milano (formerly Independent Days), a multi-day festival held in June and July, and a regular host of stadium-scale summer tours. Capacity for music events reaches around 70,000 spectators across the infield and grandstands.

• Metro M5 (purple) — San Siro Ippodromo, directly outside the venue.
• Metro M1 (red) — Lotto, then ~10 minutes on foot.
• Tram 16 (Segesta stop) and buses 49, 78, 423 serve the area.
